In regions with a distinctive architectural heritage, newly built houses can go either way: they can introduce entirely new elements that make them stand out; or, they can feel the pulse of the region and create a home that feels as if it has been there forever.

In the case of Cantona, the design pays homage to the residential vernacular with a luxe version of the Cycladic home -a choice that is as much respectful, as it is environmentally responsible. Traditional architecture meant using the natural elements to your advantage. As in the olden days, the house has small windows to protect it from the merciless northern winds. The exterior is painted stark-white to reflect the scorching rays of the Greek sun. The gardens are planted with local vegetation -olive trees, oleander and fragrant herbs. The outdoor sitting and dining spots are open-sky or shaded by trees. The only added luxury is an inviting swimming pool, a perfect spot to cool down and take in the property's spectacular vistas.

The interior is spacious and airy, with strategically placed openings that maximise the use of natural light. The decoration is simple -a few island-themed ornaments in pastel and natural tones that are casually placed here and there. Throughout the house, the living areas are bared to the minimum, creating a sanctuary-like ambience that allows for ultimate relaxation.
