Q: So, Porto Heli is filled with hidden gems and beautiful coves for endless basking in the sun. Which are the ones that visitors should absolutely have in their bucket list?
A: The entire area that stretches from Thini to Kilada is dotted with stunning coasts, large or small, pebbled or sandy. Visitors should traverse this area and head to a different beach everyday – or 2 per day – to explore the stunning beauty of this coast. For example, the tranquil, pebbled Thini beach, very close to Dwell, is a quiet and convenient coast to spend a day with emerald waters and lots of natural shade while Bouka beach, a few minutes away, shares the same ambience although it is a sandy beach. Then we have the long, sandy coast of Panagitsa and the rocky cove of Vrochitsas. Reaching Kilada, we have the fantastic, large and sandy Doroufi beach and then, one of the favourites in the area, Lepitsa with thin white pebble, transparent waters and an amazing ambience. Nature and hiking lovers will love the cove of Loupitsa, reachable by sea or on foot and, right after the main bay of Kilada, there is another fantastic beach, Lampagianna, with a wide and long coast of small pebbles and clean, crystalline waters. Of course, guests can enjoy all of them with a private boat tour, along with some other hidden gems found on this part of the coastline.
Q: And what if someone is not only a fan of beach life and wants more?
A: Well, here we have everything! The lush, abundant nature and the eclectic profile of Porto Heli offer countless options for any kind of activities and experiences. Apart from the boat trips either to the fantastic coastline of the area or the nearby islands of Spetses and, a bit farther away, Hydra, we have many farms and a notable agricultural activity that guests can explore and also participate.
And, of course, hiking and trekking! The lush, verdant terrain of the area features countless paths and trails so that nature lovers can head to endless explorations of our beautiful land and get the real taste of what the area is about.
Q:Â When it comes to gastronomy, which is the one restaurant that visitors should definitely visit and why?
A: We have many delectable restaurants and taverns in the area for guests to enjoy traditional and modern Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, but if I were to choose the one that is a must, I would definitely say Doroufi Restaurant. First, its fantastic setting right on the seashore surrounded by indigenous flora and plants, always captivates visitors at first sight. Doroufi’s menu comprises mostly by fresh fish and seafood, where its cooks present some of the most creative, mouthwatering dishes. its top quality, fresh ingredients and passion for the Greek and Mediterranean cuisine make this restaurant one of the most popular in the area. Plus, it is a business that successfully runs since 1980 which speaks for itself when it comes to quality and top-notch service.
Q: What about festivities? Is there a not-to-miss event, festival or fair in the area?
A: In the area of Porto Heli there is no specific event, other than the seasonal celebrations of saints, like the celebration of Holy May on the 15th of August. But guests will have the chance to attend the thrilling Armata Festival on the island of Spetses, a celebration that takes place every year on the second weekend of September. The festival commemorates a naval battle that took place in 1822 against the Ottoman Empire, which resulted in the liberation of the island. The festival begins with a colorful parade of locals dressed in traditional costumes. A reconstruction of a wooden warship which is built on the island is the highlight of the festival as on the final night, the ship is set on fire and sent out to sea, symbolizing the burning and sinking of the Ottoman flagship. The festival is a major event on the island’s cultural calendar, and thousands of visitors from all over the world come to witness it every year. The celebration includes live music, street food, and fireworks.
Q: And when would you say is the best season to visit Porto Heli?
A: Definitely September! Like with most regions in Greece, September is the most tranquil month, with no crowds and noise, plus the weather is milder as the August meltemia start to fade out.
