2022 SPECIAL EVENTS

One of the most famous festivals on Corfu, Varkarola, takes place the Saturday that’s closest to August 11th as it commemorates saving the island from a Turkish siege. Locals celebrate this day at Palaiokastritsa by setting a boat on fire and releasing fireworks with traditional live music and dancing.

Festivities of the 15th of August, for the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, is another important event on Corfu celebrated with dancing, singing, eating and drinking, just like in every other place in Greece.

Fish lovers will love the Sardine festival (3rd August) in Benitses village when sardines are cooked and offered to visitors along with traditional music and dances while, if you happen to be on Corfu mid-September, do not miss the Wine Festival at Kavadades village with lots of local wine and, as in all festivals, live music.
